I still hate this book. Re-read it as I had nothing else left to read on holiday and I still hate this book as much as the first time I read it. Well written, don't get me wrong, but such a bleak ending ruined the story for me. I understand the themes and messages and the importance of such a novel, but after an adolescence of constant bombardment of dystopia, doom gloom, world is going to end messaging, it becomes oversaturated for younger readers and we tend to find ourselves wanting more from a book.
A collection of poems about grief, honoring one's roots, love and self-impoundment. The structure of the book falls into five chapters which follow almost the life cycle of a plant beginning with wilting and falling into taking root, rising, and then blooming. The poetry is poignant and resonated on a very deep level.
Excellent selection of poems from an especially excellent poet. This was a well curated book that put forward some of Dickinson's best work inside a book that was clearly lovingly crafted.
Whilst very informative, this book was dry. It was hard to keep my concentration while reading, even though Emily Dickinson is a special interest of mine. The overall structure of the book was outdated and lacking.
A heartfelt and often bruising collection of poetry centered around loss, trauma, love, and connecting those to femininity. At its core, this collection looks at the sweet within the bitter.
Great collection of poems that explore ideas around connection to ourselves and loving who we are
