  • Purrs and Peril

    By Jinty James
    3 stars

A very cosy mystery (free on Kindle), including a Norwegian Forest cat.

  • Rebel

    By Marie Lu
    3 stars

Read the first three books years ago - didn't realise there was a fourth. Was interesting to revisit this world but a few years into the future.

  • Sunrise on the Reaping

    By Suzanne Collins
    3 stars

I enjoyed this more than the first prequel, although I'm not sure "enjoy" is the right word. #Heartbreaking

  • Hallowe'en Party

    By Agatha Christie
    3 stars

I love an Agatha Christie mystery but this one was not my favourite.

  • The Chimes

    By Anna Smaill
    3 stars

Another Kiwi author recommendation. It was hard to wrap my head around the realities of this dystopian future & the true horror of always being at risk of losing your most treasured memories. Enjoyed the musical vocabulary interwoven in day-to-day life, like "tacet," "subito," "lento," "forte," etc.

  • The Brothers Hawthorne

    By Jennifer Lynn Barnes
    3 stars

I first heard about this series on Adam Grant's podcast & while I don't love it as much as he does, it is still entertaining.

  • Legends & Lattes

    By Travis Baldree
    4 stars

Really enjoyed this "cosy fantasy" - with an orc like you've never seen one before.

  • Magic Breaks

    By Ilona Andrews
    3 stars

This felt like the end of the series... But it's not!

  • Talesā: The Covenant Keeper

    By Lani Wendt Young
    3 stars

This was one of the NZ author recommendations that I decided to give a try.

  • Maskerade

    By Terry Pratchett
    3 stars

I love the author's unique voice (and the narrator did a great job).

  • The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye

    By David Lagercrantz
    3 stars

    A relatively satisfying ending.

  • Crazy Rich Asians

    By Kevin Kwan
    3 stars

Can't believe it has already been 7 years since the movie came out. Enjoyed revisiting the story with the extra details and insights the book provides.

  • Magic Rises

    By Ilona Andrews
    3 stars

Book 6 in the Kate Daniels series - an alternative universe where magic waves intermittently knock out technology.

  • As Good As Dead

    By Holly Jackson
    3 stars

Quite a few girls on my class were enjoying this series - I found it quite dark, especially this third & final book. It works really well as an audiobook as the protagonist has a podcast.

  • Hunted (The Deadlands)

    By Skye Melki-Wegner
    4 stars

A great story for dinosaur-loving students. (First book of a trilogy)
