Told as a reclusive author's memoir through her and others recounting their part in her life. While it took me a while to warm up I was invested by the end and may have shed a tear or two. My fav part was seeing snippets of meaningful conversations from her life pop up and be interspersed into her writing. A great read for bookclub discussion.
Refreshing to read a romance about keeping love alive after marriage centered around real life. So much more impactful than a HEA.
Thought I should find out what all the fuss is about. Not won over yet.
Fun, fascinating read with an unreliable narrator with a head injury and amnesia being accused of murdering her best friend.
I'm fascinated with how light and cutesy the writing was though dealt with loving your body and self esteem in the age of social media in such an indepth and astute way. I would recommend this to older teens and up simply for driving home the message to not measure yourself against others and love yourself for you.
A tense, heartbreaking read as an Irish mother tries to leave a controlling relationship and set herself up and her kids up again with nothing. As their children's father he is still part of their lives and constantly trying to get her back. I found myself out aloud saying 'no' don't fall for it while admiring her determination and hope to make a better life. A story that will stay with you.
A ghost of Christmas past romance that was pulled off surprisingly well.
I didn't love this slowburn mystery but did appreciate the concept of two sides of a marriage.
Vampire novel which has the authors mark of beautiful characters portrayed over a long time period. I get there was too much back story and only enjoyed the last third when things came together.
Historical novel in verse about NZ writer Iris Wilkinson and her travel adventures.
Short mystery that keeps twisting as secrets are uncovered relating to the disappearance of two girls, and the sisters left behind looking for answers.
I wanted to like this so much more than I actually did. The story had me at arms length the whole time as I didn't gel with the main character. Glimpses of humour, romance and modern day clashing with historical. Guess I'll always be an Outlander girl.
An interesting read that shines a light on Facebook ethics and integrity from an insiders point of view. It's hard to understand some of Sarah's decisions.
A deceptively quiet domestic thriller set on Kapiti coast in 1980s. I thought the ending was quite abrupt and inconclusive.
A captivating NZ adventure read. I think a different name would've had more appeal for boys
My most anticipated read this year didn't quite meet my expectations. Josie deals with characters so well and there are some beautiful skateboarding takeaways.
A great unsettling read. Catherine perfects a slight air if menace and unease as through a triplet child's understanding you slowly work out what is actually going on in this orphanage.
Learning to live with losing your best friend and roommate. Surviving through the grief and memories. Wonderfully handled as a slow romance develops.
Fascinating journey through the iterations of a family's life depending on the name of the baby brother. Engaging, moving and tragic. This is something that will stay with you and leave you pondering.
Informative, interesting and be necessary. A must read for parents and teachers
Humourous sarcastic banter can't save a flat draw out plot.
Relatable YA romance with old friends and crossed wires.
Well handled introspective look at healing yourself and standing on your own two feet before being in a relationship. Bonus family autism content
Second YA fantasy book in what I think will be a series. Rival assassins are drawn to each other.
Fascinating and thought provoking. Read by the author
Adult romantasy with a good plot and action.
