  • The Murders at Fleat House

    By Lucinda Riley
    4 stars

A crime novel about some deaths at a boarding school. I really enjoyed this book. The story was easy to read, the plot was interesting, solution was not too obvious, everything was wrapped up well at the end and a likeable main character.

  • Sky Dancer

    By Witi Ihimaera
    5 stars

Based on the Māori pūrākau about the battle between the sea birds and land birds. Beautifully written in Witi Ihimaera's poetic style, with a main character who discovers she has to fufill an ancient prophecy. Loved it!

  • Birnam Wood

Didn't finish. Couldn't get into this one.

  • Stolen Lives

    By Paul Little
    3 stars

A biography of the Lawson quintuplets. Was an interesting book, but the writing feels chaotic which definitely mirrors the events in their lives!

  • Tangi

    By Witi Ihimaera
    4 stars

Witi Ihimaera's first novel and the first novel published by a Māori author in Aotearoa. Beautifully written.

  • The Beach Cafe

    By Lucy Diamond
    4 stars

A light, very easy read book.

  • Hiwa - Contemporary Māori Short Stories

    By Edited by Paula Morris

A really ecelctic mix of stories, so some I loved and some not so much...

  • Truly, Madly, Guilty

    By Liane Moriarty
    3 stars

Story is based around friends at a backyard barbecue and there is a tragic incident. It does follow the point-of-view of different characters and dissects their lives in lots of detail, and it has a plot twist at the end. But, I didn't enjoy this as much as Liane Moriarty's other books.

  • What does it feel like?

    By Sophie Kinsella
    4 stars

I've enjoyed lots of other books by this author as they are funny, light, entertaining reads, but I read this book just a week after the author died from a brain tumour, and discovered that this short novel is based on her own experiences with cancer. It was a sad, sweet book.

  • The Incredible Kindness of Paper

    By Evelyn Skye
    3 stars

The review said "An enchanting novel about a pair of long-lost childhood friends who find themselves magically linked through origami flowers as adults." Was an easy read, quite a sweet story.
