    By Laurence Fearnley

It took 3 goes to finish this book. I found it quite boring. I only carried on because I purchased it new and hate wadting money.I keep waiting for something to happen. But nothing really did. I purchased it because I liked the cover.

Quite a different book. Written in Japanese and translated. A sweet book unlike any I have read before. An interesting perspective from a Japanese character. Set in Jimbocho a town in Japan with between 150-200 secondhand bookshops. Would love to check it out in real life.

  • A rip through time

    By Kelley Armstrong
    5 stars

A cool time travel story. A Canadian police detective from now time travels back 150 years to Victorian Scotland. I enjoyed this book and am on to the 2nd in the series.

  • The water's dead

    By Catherine Lea
    4 stars

I enjoyed this crime thriller following the flawed D I Nyree Bradshaw. Racing the clock made the book exciting and stressful.

  • Better Left Dead

    By Catherine Lea

A good NZ crime, mystery following alongside DI Nyree Bradshaw.

  • The sound of her voice

    By Nathan Blackwell

  • Such a perfect family

    By Nalini Singh

I do enjoy Nalini Singh's thriller novels. Took a while to figure out who dunnit.

  • The Enigma of Room 622

    By Joel Dicker
    3 stars

Not as good as his other books. But still a twisted tale. Crazy plot, unexpected characters.

  • Wild Animal

    By Joel Dicker
    5 stars

Another great book by Joel Dicker. Two seemingly normal families, but in true Dicker style, looks can be deceiving. The story unpeels slowly in layers like an onion. I felt like I was gently pulling a loose thread and unveiling the truth bit at a time. I love the twists and turn plots by this author.

  • The first law of the bush

    By Geoff Parkes
    3 stars

A enjoyed his 1st book better. I found 7 characters rotating a chapter each tiresome. I enjoyed the last half of the book more than the 1st. A disjointed read. In my opinion not even close to being in the same league as Nicki Crutchley, J.P pomare, Nalini Singh or other NZ crime authors.

  • The Amalfi Curse

    By Sarah Penner
    1 stars

I did not enjoy this book.

  • The lost apothecary

    By Sarah Penner
    5 stars

A great book. Chapters jumping back and foward from the late 1700s to present day. Secrets, poison, revenge, suspense. Great tale!

  • The Baltimore Boys

    By Joel Dicker
    4 stars

Not as good as the last two I read but still good. An interesting perspective from a child, teen and adult of a family. The 3 eyes see the same events in totally different ways. Starts with the child and a slow peeling off of layers until full reliation as an adult. Such a great writer!

  • Angels of Clay

    By Madeleine Eskedahl
    1 stars

Didn't enjoy it as a chrime novel. More of a home and away family drama type book. Not well written. The plot was more family life and not artfully put together. Maybe because I read it straight after 2 of the best plotted books I have read for years. Wouldn't recommend.

  • The Alaska Sanders affair

    By Joel Dicker
    5 stars

I am loving my journey reading books by this author. Once again so many plot changes. Written in such a clever and tangled way, when you finally find out who dunnit you didn't expect it! Joel Dicker is fast becoming a favourite author of mine.

  • The truth about the Harry Quebert affair

    By Joel Dicker
    5 stars

Took me a whole day of reading. I have never read a book with so many plot twists! Crazy amount! Looking forward to the next one.

I preferred Everything is beautiful and everything hurts better.

  • The deeper the dead

    By Catherine Lea
    4 stars

A DI Nyree Bradshaw novel set in the far north of NZ. There were many suspects and it took a while to unfold the truth. I found Nyree quite hard to like. She was much to focussed on work instead of her poor 5 year old granddaughter. Good who dunnit though.

  • Mad Mabel

    By Sally Hepworth
    5 stars

I loved this book and I am now looking forward to reading other books written by this author. What a tale. The main character Mabel became the youngest Australian convicted murder in history at 15 years of age. This is her story, told in the 1st person. Part mystery crime but mostly about friendship, love and connections. I read it in one day. I recommend this book!

  • Lucky Thing

    By Tom Baragwanath

I really enjoyed his first book Paper Cage, so I was looking forward to his 2nd book. Set in the same small town of Masterton as the 1st book with the same characters. This book keep me guessing until nearly the end on the perpetrators identities. I finished this book in a day. I love a who dunnit set in NZ.

  • Hester and Harriet

    By Hilary Spiers

A lighthearted read. A little mystery, a cast of fun characters and a bit of humour. It won't stay in my mind for long but I enjoyed the read.

  • The Shadow Weaver

    By Ivy Cliffwater
    5 stars

Best contemporary fantasy book I've read for ages! Loved it! By an NZ author too. I can't wait until the next book! A bit of romance that spoils a great fantasy book. It was only a little bit though. Not like Fourth Wing.

  • The witches daughter

    By Paula Brackston
    3 stars

I did enjoy this. But I enjoyed some time periods more than others. I didn't particularly like Elizabeth even though she was on the side of good. Quite long winded but I will give the next book in the series a go.

  • A beautiful family

    By Jennifer Trevelyn

From a young girls perspective. A family on holiday. On 1st glance they are any normal family. But are they.....

  • Softly calls the devil

    By Chris Blake
    5 stars

Loved this mystery crime novel set on the West Coast of the South Island. The main character Matt is a sole policeman in the town after the last cop of over 20 years retires. He was a 20 year veteran when things went wrong. He finds the cop he replaced dead with a bullet in his head. I really enjoyed this book. There was however too many characters to remember. This meant for me not remembering who the murder was when it was revealed. I had to go back to remember who the murderer was.

  • The ten thousand doors of January

  • The voices

Wow! What a twisted tale! Told from the perspective of a woman in a coma who can hear everything. Loved it.

  • Strange Sally Diamond

    By Liz Nugent
    4 stars

I read this very quickly because I needed to know what was going to happen. Sad, dark but there was also humour at times. I enjoyed looking at the world through Sally's eyes. I felt incredibly sad for Peter and Sally's birth mum.
