  • The Shadow Weaver

    By Ivy Cliffwater
    4 stars

I can't believe this is my first romantasy. I loved this read from Kiwi author Ivy Cliffwater. It's a real page turner. Caris is a fantasy feminist icon, a blacksmith who can summon shadows and burn men. She can also summon hot men. Looking forward to the second part of the duology!

  • Poetry Aotearoa Yearbook 2025

    By Tracey Slaughter (ed)
    4 stars

This collection represents a diverse cross-section of our society. An essential read and useful resource for the senior English classroom.

  • Aroha

    By Hinemoana Elder
    4 stars

Inspiring whakatauki with helpful interpretation, plus the author's personal experience related to the proverbs. Super relevant and useful not only for life but also the classroom.

  • The New Animals

    By Pip Adam
    4 stars

Pip Adam never fails to surprise! One moment, I thought I was in a photo shoot, the next thing I'm out in the ocean. Makes you uncomfortable. Makes you think.

  • The Recruit

    By Robert Muchamore
    3 stars

Loved the first two-thirds of this book for its lovable protagonist and dramatic turns, but the last bit seemed tagged on. Could inspire resilience in the right students.

  • Eats, Shoots and Leaves

    By Lynne Truss
    4 stars

    Full of wisdom and fun.

  • Scythe

    By Neal Shusterman
    4 stars

Unsettling exploration of what the world would be like if we found a cure for all illnesses, but still needed to manage the population. Teen protagonists make this ideal for Y10/11.
