Does suffer a bit from "lone MC ran into others and the author doesn't write group dynamics as well", but still worth a read.
This book was soooo much fun. A couple of places where the author seemed to forget that their MC had lost an arm...but it was fun regardless.
Really enjoyed this take on dragonrider tropes. Will be reading the rest of the series.
75% of this book was basically a training montage. The remaining 25% was barely a plot. I usually like Rowe's work (have read all his other work) but this was...not it.
Definitely suffering from "middle of a series"-itis. Felt like this could have been seriously condensed and melded into the next book (haven't read that yet, but it couldn't have been added to the previous book, as there was a significant location/characters change from Book 7 to this book).
Struggled to start this book, as the introductory chapters were a bit meh, but once into it, it was a good blend of world-building, system apocalypse, and narrative, without an overload of "stats" or gamelit stuff.
