A thriller set in London and New Zealand, of boys growing up in the mob gangs of the 60s. After witnessing a murder, and knowing the shooter as boys, Vinnie and his wife relocate to Waiheke Island to make wine, as part of witness protection. Fast paced action, an enjoyable read.
Rereading some of my own books this summer. A mystery death, which Reece witnessed. Trouble is, the police don’t believe her, and the town thinks she’s going crazy. Recommended if you like a good crime story.
The 4th Sid Halley book, where ex-champion jockey Sid is asked to investigate on-line gambling and winds up right in the middle of a murder-suicide investigation. Classic Francis, and interesting how, while the character has only aged by a few years, the books were written over more than 30 years, and the technology is consistent with the more modern time.
Will Robbie visits his hometown after more than 20 years when his father is arrested for murder. Another excellent book in the series, with plenty of twists and turns, red herrings, and a surprising revelation at the end. Always enjoyable reading from this author.
The first book in a new fantasy series, told using three points of view. I enjoyed other books from this author, and this book also. A wee bit spicy at the end, but it’s not gratuitous. Looking forward to the next book.
Walter Nash finds out the business he works for is involved with a criminal syndicate when the FBI come calling. Suddenly his world is turned on its head, and he finds he must reinvent himself into a man of action and violence. A different story than usual, and possibly a duology, with the next book coming out in March. Not sure if I buy into Walter’s transformation 100%, so I will wait until the story finishes.
The God Apollo is punished by Zeus and sent to New York as a mortal teenager. He must complete a series of trials to return to Olympus. It took me a bit to get into the book, but I enjoyed it once I did. It will be interesting to read the rest of the series.
Classic Nora Roberts book, a family tragedy, a blossoming romance, and a psychic mind control battle. A good read, very enjoyable.
A death, family dramas, and the killing heat of the Australian outback. A good novel from Jane Harper where nothing is as it seems. An unexpected twist at the end. A good read.
Finally read the first book in the Will Robie series. Will is sent on an assignation, but he can’t pull the trigger. Suddenly a shot is fired from outside, killing the target. In fear for his life, Will is on the run, but a series of events targeting a 14 year old girl leave him wondering who is the one being targeted? A good introduction to the series characters, fast paced action, an excellent read.
Rip roaring action and political intrigue. Book 3 in the Will Robie series. Really enjoyable. Looking forward to the next instalment.
This is the first adult book of Eileen Merriman’s that I’ve read. A family get together over New Year, with plenty of family drama and secrets. I didn’t find the ending that believable, though.
Another good book from Nora Roberts. A cop recovering from a shooting, brothers starting their contracting business, and seemingly random missing persons with no obvious connection. An enjoyable read.
A psychological thriller that left me guessing right till the end of the book! I knew the author wrote fantasy novels, but this is the first thriller I’ve come across. I want to read more of her books.
Another good mystery romance, Eli Landon’s life has fallen apart when he is blamed for his estranged wife’s murder. After an accident puts his grandmother in hospital, he moves up to the family home to look after it and write a book. I enjoyed this book, with all its mysterious happenings and a budding romance.
Light hearted comedy romance. It got a bit silly in places, but everything worked out okay at the end. Good light summer reading book.
A novella featuring the Camel Club members and Will Robie. Oliver Stone and Will Robie are caught up in a bank robbery that is more than it seems. A good short story featuring old favourite characters. Very enjoyable.
Book 3 of the series, another edge of the seat fantasy. Plenty of twists and turns in Violet and Xaden’s relationship as they try to find the solution to defeating the venin and saving their continent. I’ve really enjoyed all three books in this series and look forward to when the next instalment is published.
The Maze Runner meets the Hunger Games in this YA book. Fast paced action where 100 contestants have to decipher clues and survive on a unknown planet, to make one of the 20 places for the Starquest Academy. I enjoyed this book and hope it's the first in a series.
Book Two in the Will Robie series. Will is sent on a mission to track down a rogue CIA operative, but things are not as they seem. Traitors reach the highest levels of the government, and Will and Jessica can’t trust anyone. I really enjoyed this book and hope to read more in the series.
Set after The Trials of Apollo, Nico and Will set out on a quest into the Underworld to rescue Bob, the former Titan. A good adventure, and the first book in a new series. It does help to have read the other series to understand some of the references.
Book 2 in the series. Action packed fantasy with lots of twists and turns.
The 61st book in the 'In Death' series. Eve Dallas and her Homicide Unit are after a killer who is posing his victims from famous works of art. An unusual ending from previous books, but thoroughly enjoyable.
