The Second book in the series, this book continues the journey of the magi and technocrats in union - the Alchemist Alliance. The book ties up some loose ends and culminates in the predictable ending. It is a satisfying read though, and quick.
This falls in the youth fantasy dystopian genre and follows the story of magi and technocrats - factions who hate each other. Amidst trying to find ways to subvert the ruling technocrat authorities, a pair of twins spy and use their magic to infiltrate the palace. Of course there is romance, reminiscent of the 'Twilight' saga, but it this ongoing series does capture the imagination of the reader.
It is a sad, yet gripping story of a family torn apart though brutality, fear and loss. While a challenging read in some places, the characters get under your skin.
As a classic novel it gives insight into the social etiquette of Mr Puter, his life and observations. It's humour comes from dramatical irony, puns and the occasional sarcastic comments that are totally lost on the protagonist. It is an interesting read, but not riveting.
