A complete page turner. A story that keeps you hoping, even when you know the hope is futile. 10/10 I hope Mateo and Rufus meet in the afterlife.
Full of privilege but still a good read
Honestly, for a book that is taught in every film set in American high schools, it's a total snooze fest. I'm sure when you study it, there is a lot of richness, but it's boring for an everyday read.
My Christmas read. Was super trashy but exactly what I expected!
Had to read this after reading Circe by the same author earlier this year, and enjoyed this one even more.
Re-read this classic for the first time in years, as may be teaching in it 2026. One of my all-time faves. Page count includes a rather generous foreword, but I enjoyed reading the foreword as it included a lot of unpacking of the writing in a way that was very interesting as an English teacher.
A bit predictable, but a heartwarming commentary on the importance of appreciating your reality and not living with regrets.
An easy, well-paced read set in small town New Zealand. Got sucked in for the mystery, but stayed for the warmth of the characters.
