This was a wonderful mix of reading about the background, whakapapa, and connections of Māori goddesses but also examining through a modern lens. I liked the wānanga exercises at the end of each chapter that give you something to reflect on and connect to your own life
Gritty and real, this gives a good indication of the tensions in small towns in the US. I was friends with people from Reading PA at the times this play is set and it really accurately gives a peek into what it was like for many people. The ending was a bit abrupt but the messages were clear
Poems written by a teacher - some good allusions and mood/tone that can be felt by teachers in any environment
A murder mystery set more in modern times. Some good twists
A good fantasy, young adult novel.
A really endearing play set during the 1970s bus boycott in England. It was a very sweet story centered on Princess, her mother and her father who reappears
Set during the Harlem Renaissance, the allusions to actual people were very cool. I liked the characters- Guy the fashion designer especially. There were hints on how hard it was to be a gay Black man but also how cool
Set in Manchester, about a teenager who becomes pregnant and her immature and neglectful mother
It was an interesting character driven plot about a family
