  • Softly Calls the Devil

    By Chris Blake

Written by a former member of the NZ Police - this book was a layered mystery set in the Haast area. I loved the familiar New Zealand settings and characters. I got used to the narrative style - an engaging book.

  • Careless People - A story of where I used to work

    By Sarah Wynn-Williams

I have been one of the complacent in my attitude to Facebook-Meta. I don't post much but I haven't considered the implications of their data collection capabilities. This is a read I recommend for anyone like me or anyone wanting real life confirmation of their concerns. I was shocked by the nuances of influence that have occured politically world wide. The title is perfectly apt.

  • Catch A Falling Star

    By Eileen Merriman
    3 stars

Thank goodness for author's like Eileen Merriman who write engaging stories for teens which deal with real life issues. This one deals with manic-depression.

  • Invisibly Breathing

Enjoyed the characters and their very relevant teen experiences.

  • Snow Falling on Cedars

    By David Guterson
    3 stars

I grabed this from the English texts in the school library - a beautifully written, historical novel exploring racial prejudice against American citizens of Japanese decent after Worls War II.

  • The Vanishing Place

    By Zoe Rankin
    3 stars

I was surprised! First novel, New Zealand thriller I was expecting something less engaging and polished. I recommend The Vanishing Place for readers who enjoy mysteries.

  • This Tender Land

    By William Kent Kriger
    3 stars

Set in America after the 1929 stockmarket crash, well researched historical details frame the escape of four young people from an oppressive Indian training school. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their experiences and would give this novel three and a half stars if it was possible.
