A fabulous short story collection. Brilliant writing.
Some familiar Hollinghurst terrain is traversed in the first half of this novel, but this is absolutely brilliant and takes a very unexpected turn at the end.
A great way to soak up NZ history.
A classic - great for teaching.
Described as a "love letter to reading" and I have to agree. It's fabulous to find out about the favourite books of authors like Deborah Levy and Ali Smith.
A classic tale of retribution - hugely enjoyable, if also very long (as so many serialised texts of the period were!)
Beautifully written short stories. Very English.
A fast and enjoyable read with a great ending.
In same vein as Donna Tartt's The Secret History - but not nearly as good.
An interesting and super informative blend of history, natural science, politics, and geography. The enormity of the Pacific is well conveyed but not enough on Pasifika people, in my view.
A strange and lovely novel from the author of The Essex Serpent (with lots of overlap with that text, but this time looking outward at the night skies and, in particular, the Hale-Bopp comet). Highly recommended.
