I really enjoy the way Kate Quinn weaves together the stories of different characters and the Rose Code was woven beautifully!
This was a slow-burn book for me. At the start, it felt overwritten, and that the child version of Esme wasn't believable. However, as the story progressed, I could see why the beginning was written as such. It created a juxtaposition with Esme's adult life and struggles. It was interesting to read about the suffrage movement in England with the knowledge that NZ women won the vote so many years earlier.
I'm a big fan of Kate Quinn, and this book did not disappoint. Set across two timelines, WW1 and post-WW2, the narrative weaves together two lives and stories beautifully. It was nice to read about the spywork that women undertook during WW1, as it's not something that I know a lot about. Highly recommended.
This book was a slow burn for me. A few times at the beginning, I thought about putting it down. However, there was just enough to keep me going, and I'm glad I did. The twist at the end was very unexpected.
I had high hopes for this book based on the cover (I know, I know). The first 80% had me hooked. However, the twist of what Thea had done in her past was such a letdown. I didn't find her all-consuming guilt believable; it was more narcissistic and self-absorbed.
Loved this. After finishing, I found out that it is in the works to be made into a movie - I'm looking forward to that!
I really enjoyed the twists and turns in this book. I recommend it!
I enjoyed this book so much more than I expected. I haven't read a lot of WW2 novels from the perspective of women living in France during the war, so it was fascinating to find out more about their experiences. I see that they are turning the book into a movie, which I am looking forward to watching!
