  • All the Beautiful Things

    By Katrina Nannestad
    4 stars

Enjoyed this book (not the illustrations). The story was realistic and enlightning from Germany's perspective in WW2. Family is everything. Loyalty is everything.

  • Moonrise

    By Sarah Crossman
    5 stars

Very cleverly written in verse form. This novel made me think a lot about the prison system in the USA which is something I don't know a lot about. Very emotional topic.

  • The mess of our lives

    By Mary-Anne Scott
    5 stars

Loved this story, as heart-breaking as it was for the lives of the 2 children. A definite read as a senior fiction class share book to look at how other people live, navigate and survive their life situations. Parental neglect is a big theme. Made me quite emotional to think that this situation could and does happen in Aotearoa.

  • Lessons in Chemistry

    By Bonnie Garmus
    5 stars

Set in the 60's, a really fun story about how Elizabeth navigated her loss and life ambitions. Easy to read, dry humour and an American take on gender roles and sexism.

  • Red Sky in the Morning

    By Elizabeth Laird
    5 stars

This book is a very 'honest' story. You can feel the psychological impact that Anna goes through in her family situation, and what every reader has possibly gone through in their lives. Perfect book for a class share at year 7 and 8 level. It is told from the point of view of adolescence, and you have a lot of sympathy for all of them.

  • Secret Sparrow

    By Jackie French
    5 stars

Set in WW1 this historical fiction novel is about a young girl working on the front as a signaller. Chapters alternate between modern day and life in the trenches. It is based on true events. Remarkable account of what she went through. The courage she had to endure. The authorities tried to erase the fact that women and girls were used in this capacity, right in the middle of the fighting.

  • Fix Iron First. The one thing that changes everything

    By Dr Libby
    5 stars

Lots of medical info and detailed processes on how to raise iron levels for women. Effective for fatigue, anxiety, poor sleep, and general low energy, with ideas for significant improvements in iron levels and overall well-being.
