Chuck Palahnuik wants to be Bret Easton Ellis so bad.
Chuck Palahniuk wishes he could write this
Love Island with a somewhat dystopian twist. Would have liked more about what was actually going on outside the “compound.”
A regular time travel “thriller” without the thrill. The last third was really hard to get through, and the “solution” to the problem in the end did not make sense in relation to what else happened in the novel.
Interesting premise, but I didn’t love the ending.
It was probably needed at the time it came out, but it really hits you over the head with its message. The main character is entirely unlikeable. Most of the novel takes place in the narrator’s head and there is little plot.
Great entry to gothic fiction. Should be read in conjunction with Jane Eyre, Madwoman in the Attic, The Haunting of Hill House, The Yellow Wallpaper, Northanger Abbey, and Jekyll and Hyde.
