  • You don't own me

By Mary Higgins Clarke & Alafair Burke
    3 stars

Murder mystery story. Thrilling in an American way that tells you every little thing but doesn't allow you to think for yourself.

  • The healing hippo of hinode park

    By Michiko Aoyama
    4 stars

This was a lovely story. Told from the perspective of several characters who found touching a hippo in the children's park gave them a healing solice so that their lives calmed and gave them peace.

  • Lightlark

    By Alex Aster
    2 stars

I like fantasy books but this book really frustrated me. I can honestly say I skipped pages out of frustration. In my opinion it needed more editing!!

  • Odyssey

    By Stephen Fry
    5 stars

I loved this version of Homer's odyssey. I like Stephen's extra descriptions and inclusions of what was and is currently known now. How he interprets what may have been meant so that a modern audience can appreciate this classic story. Brilliant.

  • As time goes by

    By Mary Higgins Clark
    3 stars

A murder mystery that is uncovered by several people working the case from different perspectives. The murder weapon is not found until the eleventh hour and the chase takes the reader right to the end of the book. All ends are tied up neatly.

  • The kiss of the highland warrior

    By Karen Marie Moning
    4 stars

#4 in the series and the start of a continuing family arch where the Mac Keltars are introduced. Definitely dream worthy!

  • The highlander's touch

    By Karen Marie Moning
    4 stars

#3 in the scottish warrior series. I really liked this one. It's very magical and the Brude warrior character really gets your heart pumping!!

  • To tame a highland warrior

    By Karen Marie Moning
    4 stars

Book 2 in the scottish warrior series. This one I always find hilarious to read. Read in order so you understand the character introduction.

  • Beyond the Highland Mist

    By Karen Marie Moning
    4 stars

The 1st book in the highland warrior series. This series I read every 5 or 6 years because it was one of the first romance series I ever read. A great escape from listening to the boy chatter when you know how it plays out, but enough to keep you engaged during lunch.

  • The cleaner

    By Paul Cleave
    4 stars

Not what I was expecting! I thought it was going to be a nice little murder I could solve while resting after the heat of gardening. This is a serial killer scary read. The main character comes across as simple, he is anything but. If you like psychological thrillers then this is your bag!!

  • Dead beside the Thames

    By Stephanie Laurens
    4 stars

Great book. Set in the regency period a murder is discovered and friend is framed so Barnaby and Penelope Adair assist Scotland Yard to uncover the killer. The 'why' is a very twisty plot that is uncovered very slowly and uses the cared for but unwanted 'children of the slums' who have been trained just for this type of sleuthing. A general read that could appeal to most ages.

  • The curse of ill-gotten gains

    By Stephanie Laurens
    4 stars

I really liked this book. Set in the regency period the murder is revealed at a house party held in the country. The 'why' is a very twisty plot that is uncovered very neatly in layers. A general read that could appeal to most ages.

  • The war of two queens

    By Jennifer L. Armentrout
    4 stars

Book 5 in this series. Lots of twisty plots in this book. Just when you think you have a handle on where it's going wham she has you back tracking through the book to find out where she mentioned it before. Really annoying but exciting at the same time! Lots of passion and anger to get your blood pumping! Great read.

  • A shadow in the ember

    By Jennifer L. Armentrout
    4 stars

Book 4 if you're reading it in the chronological sequence. The back story is revealed in this novel and provides the answers to sooo many questions as the series unfolds. A good idea to include at this point.

  • The crown of gilded bones

    By Jennifer L Armentrout
    4 stars

The 3rd book in the series and it came right back after the cliffhanger ending in book 2. Lots of twisty plots to keep you interested. The development of romance upped the anti as tension mounted in the story. Great read!

  • A kingdom of flesh and fire

    By Jennifer L. Armentrout
    4 stars

A great romantasy read! There was a nice plot twist for our character to keep it interesting. There are lots of external characters coming in to devlop the series to hopefully get it through to the final book.

  • Heat of the Everflame

    By Penn Cole
    4 stars

This is the 3rd book in the Kindred's cursed series. I liked this one a lot. It feels like the character has started to grow into her powers and develop confidence in making decisions. It gives me hope that the twisty narrative will tie up all the loose ends in the final book.

  • Glow of the Everflame

    By Penn Cole
    4 stars

This is the 2nd book in the Kindred's cursed series. It is much improved on the first book and the protagonist is showing the emotional turmoil of discovering her new powers and position in a foreign court.

  • Spark of the Everflame

    By Penn Cole
    3 stars

The first book in the kindred's curse series. I liked the way it flowed but felt it could have been edited a bit more.

  • The things we leave unfinished

    By Rebecca Yarros
    4 stars

A great general read about family secrets with twisty endings. Definitely a rainy day read!!

  • A candle for a corpse

    By Ann Granger
    4 stars

For fans of murder mysteries! Unlike Agatha Christie novels who never gives you all the evidence, Ann Granger throws you so many red herrings along with the evidence that you find yourself sifting information all the time. I love the way she writes stories. As this was an audiobook I'm usually cleaning or painting the house or gardening. A wonderful combination! Definitely recommend for gardeners who love murder mysteries!!

  • A curse of storms and scorn

    By SW Clarke
    3 stars

This book is like a slow burn. A lot was going on initially and the main character took me a while to feel invested. But by the end I was looking for the next book in the series. A good fantasy read.

  • From Blood and Ash

    By Jennifer L. Armentrout
    4 stars

A great page turner for lovers of Romantasy fiction. I liked the way the way the story unfolded like a crime novel. The main protaganist giving you their version of events and then as other characters become more dominant the view becomes skewed and a different version emerges. Quite thrilling. Definitely recommend for Fantasy or Romantasy lovers!!
