  • The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

    By Douglas Adams
    4 stars

After reading the first book, you know what you're getting in for. Don't question it too much and just buckle up for a fun trip to different times and places around the universe.

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

    By Douglas Adams
    4 stars

A very entertaining yarn. Douglas Adams has such a whimsical style to his descriptions and comparisons that I am very happy to get on board with.

  • Lolita

    By Vladimir Nabokov
    5 stars

A great read. While Humbert is obviously a deplorable person, the style of "his" storytelling is interesting to read. It is a much funnier book than I was expecting.

  • The Princess Bride

    By William Goldman
    5 stars

What an excellent tale. Masterfully told. Perhaps one day I should visit Florin, and reading a copy of the original Morgenstern would certainly be interesting.

  • All That We Know

    By Shilo Kino
    3 stars

An interesting, confronting book. It grew on me as the book progressed, particularly the last quarter.

  • All the Light We Cannot See

    By Anthony Doerr
    5 stars

An excellent book. The structure, the style, the language make it a joy to read. I will recommend this to people and I will read it again soon.

  • Of Mice and Men

    By John Steinbeck
    4 stars

A quick, interesting read. Will probably act as a stepping stone to reading some of Steinbeck's other work.

  • Acceptance

    By Jeff VanderMeer
    4 stars

A strong finish to the trilogy. Interesting shifting of perspectives between chapters, particularly the portions that are in the second person.

  • L'Amour aux temps du choléra

    By Gabriel García Márquez
    5 stars

C'est un excellent roman. It will be interesting to read the English translation one day, to check how well I actually understood the French version (and find out how much I missed). It was a very enjoyable read. I'm looking forward to reading more books by Gabriel García Márquez and more books in French.

  • Authority

Answered some questions that were left at the end of Annihilation but asked a whole lot more. I expect most of those will be answered in the concluding entry of the trilogy.

  • The Alternative Commentary Collective Almanack

By Mike Lane and Matt Heath
    4 stars

An entertaining and informative read. Apparently most of it has a basis in fact.

  • Pounamu Pounamu

    By Witi Ihimaera
    3 stars

Previously I hadn't read this book. Now I have.

  • Shame: Dark Sides of Land Search and Rescue Exposed

    By Brian Burgess
    3 stars

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

  • Dracula

    By Bram Stoker
    5 stars

The book was rich in vivid detail. I really enjoyed it. Definitely worthwhile.

  • Annihilation

    By Jeff VanderMeer
    4 stars

This book was interesting. I look forward to reading the remaining books in the trilogy and learning more about what is going on.
