    By Nicky Pellegrino

Again I’ve found a book with familiar characters which I love - Venice, a blocked fiction writer and dramas within the guesthouse make for a fabulous story!

  • Love as a stranger

    By Owen Marshall
    1 stars

Not for me as I labored through this one - it was hard work and predictable.

  • When in Rome

    By Nicky Pellegrino
    5 stars

I’ve read this before but loved the story so was happy to repeat - I loved the chaos and drama surrounding the fictional ( but based on a lot of fact) story of Mario Lanza and his family which the narrator became a part of. Emotional and compelling I couldn’t put it down.

  • The garden party and other stories

    By Katherine Mansfield
    1 stars

Short stories are not my jam but unfortunately I missed that fact when I picked up this book. Some of the stories I enjoyed but the style of writing is not really for me and I found it hard going.

    By Sarah Kate Lynch

I loved aspects of this story - but the main character started to annoy me with her overthinking rambling. Story was ok about a life turning upside down in an instant.

  • Sole Survivor

    By Derek Hansen
    5 stars

This book is on my “don’t loan out shelf” so it’s pretty good. I’ve had it for a long time the pages are becoming sepia edged and my name on the inside cover is not the same as today.Ive read it multiple times and it never disappoints. It’s set on Great Barrier Island and follows three main characters as their lives become entwined and conflicts arise. Highly recommended.

  • The new animals

    By Pip Adam
    0 stars

It wasn’t a good day today with book choices as they both were disappointing- such a shame but I just couldn’t work out what was going on and in the end the effort outweighed any benefit so I gave up.

  • The bookshop Detectives Girl Gone

By Gareth Ward and Louise Ward
    1 stars

Yes I was sucked in by the cover - this looked as if it was going to be a good read but alas not. I found it odd and clunky and lost the will to live at 62 pages.

  • All about Kate

    By Josie Laird
    1 stars

This book was from our school library so not perhaps my usual pick. I found the voice supposedly of a 26yr old hard to believe seemingly more of an older woman to me. It was hard going and I wouldn’t really recommend it. Perhaps the clue may have been in that I am only the second borrower in 6 years.

  • The pretty delicious cafe

    By Danielle Hawkins
    5 stars

You know that a book is good when you find yourself dwelling on the storyline while doing mundane tasks. Great story with believable characters which I loved. I will be looking for more from this author.
