Alan Rickman in his own words. Gosh... what a loss. Glimpses of stories, peppered with some of theatres greats. Often grumpy as heck, but also super aware of it too. Loved it.
An engaging story with interesting main characters. I picked this one up mostly because of it being set in Venice, I'm a bit obsessed with books about Venice. Here the city is treated almost as a main character...which it seems to be..one day I'll visit.
Another from my TBR pile, set in occupied Paris it follows a perfumier and his/her Bohemian friends as they try to save themselves while trying thwart the Nazis.
Ah... not sure why I did this to myself. Except the quote on the front of the book from a reviewer "my book of the decade". Well, it wasn't mine. But there were interesting moments, the chapter on his writing the play "Lady in a Van". And discussing how the "History Boys" came about. The chapter of diary entries was a low point, but Maggie Smith appears often with her witticims.. would not recommend, unless you really were an Alan Bates Fan. Still, for some reason I've had it on my TBR pile and now it's done...so yay.
This has been on my bedside table to read for a ridiculously long time. So glad i finslly picked it up. Engaging and heartbreaking. Lyrical and descriptive and all together an enchanting look at early Anne (Agnes) and William and just how/why Anne and the children might have have been left behind while William set off to London. Highly recommend, and I think theres a movie coming soon.
This has been on my tbr for a while. This was a wonderful read! Incredible subject material, I'm not sure the story of women stationed in the Vietnam War has been told very often. Gripping from the get-go, I couldn't put this down and I read it in 2 days. Highly recommend
