Heartwarming story. I was unsure on this one because POV of a character of limited cognitive ability could come across as dismissive, unkind or abusive. I think the author toed the line at times, but overall Denny was believable and sincere. The story was not particularly suspenseful and the twists were predictable, but there were times I wanted to keep reading to check that Denny was going to be okay.
There was enough tension in the story to keep me interested. Some parts are gruelling, but there’s enough optimism to move it away from being bleak. Some admirable characters who show the strength of the human spirit.
Enjoyable story with interesting perspectives from multiple main characters. Builds up in tension and well written.
MC is naive to the point of infuriating. She seems much younger than she is supposed to be. I had started so decided to keep going. Not McFadden’s best work.
Well written story. Some revelations to keep the story moving. I didn’t 100% vibe with the characters but they did have charm that made me connect more as the story unfolded.
Fantastic read. I didn’t want it to end. Soothing and charming.
A charming story that was a quick read. Reassuring about faith and life lessons.
First 5 star review this year. Compelling storyline. Very grim in parts in terms of violence, but this made it more intense and believable.
