  • Letters from the past

    By Erica James
    5 stars

Part of a set of books that are all set in the same village so I knew the characters. Lovely comfy read!

  • Little Woodford- the secrets of a small town

    By Catherine Jones
    5 stars

Lovely, comfy visit to an English village! Great characters and a story that romps along.

  • Heroine’s bookshelf: Life lessons from Jane Austen to Laura Ingalls Wilder

    By Erin Blakemore
    4 stars

Each chapter focuses on one literary heroine and the lesson they show us on how to deal with life. The author who created the heroine is also examined and the way they dealt with own life is held up as an example too. Really interesting and made me want to reread some old favourites!

  • My friend Anne Frank

    By Hannah Pick-Goslar
    5 stars

If Anne Frank is a heroine of yours then this will add to your understanding of her early life. Hannah tells you about their Amsterdam childhood and the slow, brutal way it unraveled as the Nazis took control. Hannah went into a concentration camp so she tells us about the Jewish girl’s experience of that which Anne could not. It is a harrowing but fascinating read.

  • Bookshop detectives: tea and cake and death

    By Gareth and Louise Ward
    5 stars

I don’t usually read NZ fiction but this book and the first in the series are excellent. I come from HB so it was surreal actually knowing so much about the setting. They have nailed the cosy murder genre too!

  • Bookshop Detectives 1. Dead Girl Gone

    By Garth and Louise Ward
    4 stars

I don't usually go for NZ fiction but I come from Hastings so I thought it would be fun to read a book set in a location I know! I am really enjoying the writing and the characters.
