  • Strange Sally Diamond

    By Liz Nugent
    5 stars

I loved this book so much - a lot of nights I spent reading too late because I needed ‘just one more chapter’!

  • The Clues in the Fjord

    By Satu Ramo
    4 stars

I enjoyed the book and found descriptions of the scenery really interesting as well as the details of living in such a harsh environment compared to home.

  • Inheritance

    By Genevieve Gannon
    5 stars

I found the premise of this very realistic, but also terrifying. Genetically modifying humans to have skills and the unintended consequences as well as global pandemics seems all too much like the future we could live in.

  • Money Man

    By Fiona Lowe
    4 stars

There were so many parallels to Ponzi schemes I have heard about and this was so interesting. Enjoyable read.

  • Such a Quiet Place

    By Megan Miranda
    3 stars

Book was ok - I thought it was interesting and wanted to pick it up and read it, but also thought it was reasonably predictable in the end. Easy read :)

  • A Home Like Ours

    By Fiona Lowe
    4 stars

It is crazy how much this sort of story of racism against migrants and refugees still exists and this was a look into it within a small town - ringing true from stories I have heard myself. Really enjoyable, albeit predictable.

  • Bad Summer People

    By Emma Rosenblum
    3 stars

I was expecting a bit more thriller but ended up being more light reading than mystery. A few twists but reasonably predictable. Easy read and enjoyable though.

  • The Bookshop Detectives - Tea and Cake and Death

    By Louise and Gareth Ward
    4 stars

I enjoyed it, but did find it a bit more predictable than the previous book. I loved lots of the references but the female narrator in the audiobook version really makes a mess with the Māori words :(

  • That Island Feeling

    By Karina May
    4 stars

I needed a light read after a few heavy themes I had been reading and this delivered. Predictably cheesy but easy to read.

  • The German Midwife

    By Mandy Robotham
    4 stars

I enjoyed this - was clearly written by someone with a midwifery background. It was an interesting premise and the story moved quickly.

  • The Paris Bookshop for the Broken Hearted

    By Rebecca Raisin
    3 stars

It was an easy read, albeit predictable. A lot of the theme was about not judging the style of book someone prefers and there is much to gain from reading a variety of genres. The character Valerie reminded me of a friend with her care for all despite having her own issues.

  • One Dark Night

    By Hannah Richell
    5 stars

I really enjoyed the story. It had the expected red herrings throughout but left you guessing right to the end. A great story and addictive read :)

  • The Seachangers

    By Meredith Appleyard
    3 stars

It was an easy read. Predictable but didn’t take a lot of thinking.

  • Just one damned thing after another

    By Jodi Taylor
    1 stars

It was sci-fi, which isn’t usually my go-to but it was fine. I probably won’t read the rest of the series.

  • Circus of Wonders

    By Elizabeth Macneal
    5 stars

I loved this book. It wasn’t the predictable ending I so hate, so loved it until the end.

  • The Fish

    By Lloyd Jones
    4 stars

This opened a lot of questions for me about 1960s NZ views. I found it really interesting when I got into it! Including a lot of reading up about symbolism in meaning behind ‘The Fish’ character.

  • Found

    By Harlan Coben
    4 stars

Usual great things from Harlan Coben. Unfortunately I read another of his ‘universe’ stories while waiting for this one so it spoilt two of the shocks, but still great to finish the series.

  • All That Glitters

    By Danielle Steele
    3 stars

The main character really made me angry at times because of her naivety - in fact a sign of great writing. I wish the end wasn’t as predictable, but that is part of reading this style of book.
