I haven't read a Chief Inspector Gamache thriller before, nor a Loise Penny novel. She has a very descriptive writing style so the reader came imagine tge scenes depicted. Given the number of characters in the story, I found the tale quite convoluted. I had to go back to previous chapters to figure out who was who. Despite this the plot was interesting and captivating.

A capable talented 'jock' frustrates his teachers with his lack lustre attitude to school and life in general - happy to follow his father and work in the local quarry, marry his girlfriend and have kids. Will he heed his teachers and coach and lift his game and get a scholarship and get ahead in life? Teachers of young adults will be able to relate to the characters in this book and the senarios presented.
