This one covers a stretch of the civil wars in North Carolina and I found it was a little slow in parts. It didn't take long to speed up again though. Gabaldon seems to have endless ideas for plot twists and every time you think Jamie and Claire's lives are going smoothly she doesn't fail to surprise you with yet another disaster.
These books get better as they go on through the series. Loved it!
This one began in a confusing way, with Claire and Jamie separated by two hundred years. Brianna is grown up and I wasn't sure if I had picked up this book out of order. I hadn't though - and it quickly drew me back into Claire and Jamie's story.
It's a few years since I first read this series and even though I know the basic story, I am enjoying it nearly as much the third time around as I did the first time!
