Was actually laughing (sniggering) out loud at parts. Great story, great main characters, great conversation. It was all good until the end when I discovered: 1. CLIFFHANGER. 2. It started as a Dramione fanfic. Oh well. Apart from that - and the fact that the sequel isn't due till July of next year - loved it!
A main character so annoying and actively stupid that I was actually wanting her to fail horribly. She was awful to her brother. She made stupid choice after stupid choice then whined about the world being against her. The writing style was also very...immature, very tell-not-show, with a heap of details about irrelevant minutiae. I am pretty confident, without looking, that this was a debut. Nava needs to work on honing her writing. I won't be reading more from her.
I enjoyed it. Often genuinely funny, plus a bit of horror but not too bad (as a person who doesn't really like horror). Essentially a retelling, I think, of The Fall of The House of Usher by Edgar Allen Poe, which I haven't read.
An OK read, but not my favourite of hers. Much more focus on swooning than the imminent peril the characters found themselves in - to the extent that when the climax (of the peril) was reached, I found I didn't really understand what the issue was or how to fix it. The characters were meant to be incredibly intelligent, but when we saw inside their minds, all we saw was them obsessing over each other. I don't mind a little obsessing, but in this case there really wasn't anything else - no "she pulled her mind away and focused on the workings of the ley lines, as she realised that [magical issue blah blah]". Just focusing on how wonderful and beautiful the other one was to the exclusion of anything going on around them. (I'll probably still read the next one in the series. But I'll be hoping for a bit more focus on the actual plot!)
Eveen is an undead assassin contracted to fulfill every job or all hell will break loose. Until her latest job, where she meets her intended victim: her (living) former self.
