  • The Right Move

    By Liz Tomforde
    4 stars

Ryan Shay can do no wrong. Maybe my next book boyfriend?

  • Us Against You

    By Fredrik Backman
    5 stars

This is the second book I’ve spent in Beartown and these characters just feel so real! Fredrik Backman and his translator create pure magic within these pages, and they break my heart every time.

  • Ring Shout

    By P. Djèlí Clark
    3 stars

This short story packs a powerful punch. It’s quirky, genre-bending and fast-paced. Definitely well out of my comfort zone, but it was worth it!

  • Heated Rivalry

    By Rachel Reid
    4 stars

Surprisingly tender and sweet for a book that’s so spicy. Now that I’ve read the book, I can finally watch the show that’s got everybody talking!

  • A Different Kind of Power

    By Jacinda Ardern
    4 stars

Listening to this being read by Jacinda Ardern herself made it that much more interesting! Such a powerful insight into one of the most incredible women of our time.

  • Wild Dark Shore

    By Charlotte McConaghy
    4 stars

A heart-breaking, vivid love letter to our planet. This book has romance, it has mystery, it has emotional depth, but mostly, it has a setting that is so rich and complex that it becomes a character in its own right. Stunning!

  • Mile High

    By Liz Tomforde
    3 stars

A fun and lighthearted rom-com with some really lovely undertones related to mental health and setting boundaries to protect your wellbeing!

  • Daisy Jones and The Six

    By Taylor Jenkins Reid
    4 stars

If you get the chance to listen to this as an audiobook, take it! It felt like being immersed in the story due to the full cast of narrators. Loved the range of strong female characters in this novel! On the surface, it’s easy to read it as a ‘sex, drugs and rock’n’roll’ story, but really, it’s a beautiful exploration of all the different variations of love that exist between people and the lengths we’ll go to support those we love.

  • I Who Have Never Known Men

    By Jacqueline Harpman
    4 stars

This short story defies everything that we understand about genre, plot and characters and yet, manages to tell a story that grips you from start to finish. A deeply evocative and reflective piece on loneliness, what it means to be human, and the futility of our time here on earth.

  • Everything Is Beautiful and Everything Hurts

    By Josie Shapiro
    5 stars

Whilst it is definitely deeply reflective and critical of the pressure we place on young athletes that perform at a high level, Everything Is Beautiful and Everything Hurts is also one big, beautifully written metaphor about what it means to strive for the dreams and goals that we set ourselves, and what we’re willing to sacrifice to achieve them. I loved Mickey - she’s feisty and tough, and her story reinforces the novel’s main messages perfectly: one foot in front of the other and look after yourself.

  • Last One Out

    By Jane Harper
    3 stars

If you love a slow burn, then this one’s for you! The mystery picked up at the end and I was INVESTED, but this didn’t grip me the same way that previous novels of Harper’s have.

  • Broken Country

    By Clare Leslie Hall
    4 stars

Broken Country is the kind of book that rips your heart out and stomps all over it, and yet, you’re glad and left wanting more. It leaves us asking ourselves to consider the lengths that we would go to right our wrongs and protect the ones that we love.

  • Auē

    By Becky Manawatu
    4 stars

Heartbreaking and raw, yet tender and hopeful, Auē provides insight into the challenges of those caught up in the complexities of gang life here in Aotearoa.

  • The Thursday Murder Club

    By Richard Osman
    4 stars

A witty and charming who-done-it that kept me guessing until the end.

  • A Christmas Carol

    By Charles Dickens
    5 stars

You can’t go past this classic at Christmas time!

  • Demon Copperhead

    By Barbara Kingsolver
    5 stars

This book simultaneously broke my heart and healed it again! It provided such an honest, unfiltered look into the reality of poverty, the foster system and addiction and it’s all told through the eyes of a narrator that you become fiercely attached to. Such a phenomenal story.

  • Holiday Ever After

    By Hannah Grace
