Written as a series of emails and whatsapp messages. With quite a few twists and turns.

Not what I expected but well worth the read.

  • the surface trials

    By HM Waugh
    4 stars

Teenagers are dropped off on an unknown planet in teams to solve clues which will take them to an extraction point. If they make it in time they gain entry to Starquest Academy. A few hitches along the way make this a compelling sci-fi adventure.

  • The women could fly

    By Megan giddings
    3 stars

Very slow to begin with. I've read 4 or 5 books whilst putting off finishing this one. Towards the middle got much more interesting and finished it quickly but not I would highly recommend. Dystopian witchy drama set in the USA.

  • Needle in a haystack

    By Karly lane
    4 stars

Easy to read chic lit story. Set in Australia but storyline reminded me of Danielle Hawkins books. Nice and light after the last book I read :)

  • The lost girls of willowbrook

    By Ellen Marie wiseman
    4 stars

Good read but parts very predictable. Quite a few murders, instutionalised staff & doctors all set in 1970's USA.

  • A sorceress comes to call

    By T Kingfisher
    5 stars

Great fantasy read. Magic and romance woven through the story plus some lovely comedic characters.

  • The Leonard Girls

    By Deborah Challinor
    4 stars

The story of Jo & Rowy, sisters with a backdrop of the Vietnam war. A well written fictional story hung on facts of the time. Number 4 in a series but is a really good stand alone read.

  • Better the blood

    By michael bennett
    4 stars

Not a huge fan of detective stories but this has done the rounds of staff so thought I would give it a go. Loved that it was set in Auckland but all things leading back to the detective was a little too much for me.

  • Bearmouth

    By Liz Hyder
    5 stars

Bearmouth is a mine where men & boys work under a reign of tyranny. This is the story of Thomas' crew which includes young 'uns Newt & Devlin. Intermediate aged story with twists and turns making it a great read.

  • three dogs, two murders, and a cat

    By rodney strong
    4 stars

Mystery story set in Wellington. about a pet detective who gets swept up in something much bigger than an injured pet. An easy read and comedic in parts.

  • into thin air

    By Jon Krakauer
    4 stars

One person's account of the disastrous spring season in 1996 of the climbing of Mt Everest. It tries to be objective but very hard as the story of those that died is not able to be told.
