Beautifully written and offers a powerful, well researched portrayal of war and the overlooked experiences of women who served. However, I personally struggled to connect with the novel due to the unrealistically saintly portrayal of the main character and the superficial development of her relationships, particularly in Part One (though Part Two improved this).
An original and thought-provoking read. Tough to read at times due to the themes of domestic violence, but not a long book to get through. Highly recommend everyone read this book.
Took ages to get into the story, but it was another fantastic story by Kate Morton
A classic Kate Morton: well developed characters and multiple storylines that all come together seamlessly. There are plenty of red herrings along the way, and the writing is excellent. Despite the ending, I really enjoyed this one … it’s easily one of her best. Don’t read if you dislike books with multiple timelines and characters.
Beautiful writing, interesting culture dive (with consideration of a western author’s point of view). A story about grit and perseverance and hope.
