Everyone seems to be reading this thriller at the moment and I get it - definite page-turner! There are a couple of storylines running and the author is great at ending chapters in a way that leaves you wanting more. Just when you’re getting really invested in one thread, you’re pulled into the next — which makes it very hard to put down.
This is an intense story about a mother trying to keep her family safe when Ireland slips into an authoritarian nightmare, everything is falling apart and her husband disappears. Paul Lynch’s writing is incredible — it’s intense, and makes you feel everything the characters are going through. It is an unsettling read - very confronting.
Read this on holiday and it was a easy page turner - a psychological thriller all about insanely wealthy people, secrets and lies.
This novel is an easy, quick read that follows flawed, very human characters dealing with a lot of real-life issues. I found it interesting and at times genuinely heart-wrenching.
Easy to read, engaging story by this debut author Florence Knapp and although I enjoyed the story, i felt that some of the more significant moments felt brushed over too quickly, which left parts of the novel feeling slightly underdeveloped. The book also addresses themes of domestic abuse, which some readers may find confronting.
I really enjoyed this novel, on the surface it’s about creating video games (which surprisingly was really interesting!) but theres so much more to the story. It explores friendships, relationships, grief and how past trauma shapes who we become. I also really loved the main characters - they are interesting, a little different and sit slightly outside the norm.
Struggled through this one — wasn't the most enjoyable read. Still, it offered an interesting and very unsettling glimpse (from an insiders perspective) into this tech giant and the messed up people that run it.
This was such a great read which even made me forget that I’ve never really been interested in running! It’s confronting in places, but also insightful and hopeful. This was a moving and unexpectedly motivating read … even if my running shoes yet to be dusted off!
