  • Last One Out. No one stays forever.

    By Jane Harper
    5 stars

Harper has an amazing ability to build character and to such you into the lives of said character. This book, like her others, sits in the outback noir genre and helps the reader feel fully immersed in the beauty and hardship of rural Australia. A young man goes missing on his 18th birthday. 5 years later his family gather in the home town that slowly dieing, to remember him and search for answers. Slow to start as the characters stories emerge, but in the end I just couldn't put it down until the last word.

An engaging story, but predictable and simply written. Felt a bit like a condensed book. However, an easy read and entertaining

This was a beautiful story. It followed 3 generations of women and their search for identity and belonging. Wonderfully written and sucked me in from page 1 to the final paragraph. Loved it.

Picked this up expecting a light summer romance and got an intriguing light thriller with a surprising link to Hawke's Bay.
