An interesting read. The force behind the students' erratic behaviour was a little stretched but it did force me to consider hidden elements that may exist in New Zealand and around the world. Believable characters who teenagers could relate to and understand.
A modern version of Once were Warriors. Beccy Manawatu provides us with a slice of gang life in New Zealand and the brave women who try to overcome adversity. She cleverly delves into the why and how families separate but highlights the importance of whanau.
This book had a surprise twist which allowed you to understand the character and her actions. It enabled the reader to realise how grief can manifest in many ways. An intriguing novel where the author has drawn you into the character's obsessions.
