  • Dune

Truly nothing like it. I can’t imagine going into this blind in the 60s, but then again the acid was pretty strong back then

  • The Body

    By Stephen King
    4 stars

Novella from the Different Seasons collection. Quite chilling to finish reading the source material for Stand by Me on the same day as the director Rob Reiner was killed. This is just as essential as the film, and the spirit that makes the film a transcendently accurate translation of childhood originate from this.

  • The Wayward Bus

    By John Steinbeck
    4 stars

Some interesting proto-beatnik stuff in here. The way that Steinbeck weaves between his ensemble of characters is masterful. Though light on plot, it certainly does not lack in small interactions, conversations and actions that capture the emotional essence of the human condition, and a universality that helps this read as incredibly contemporary, at least in terms of attitudes and needs.
