Would like to wear all the fabulous clothes and earrings.
My favourite this summer - read in 2 days. "Summer's my favourite day in Ireland". The subject matter is harrowing, graphic and disturbing.
The best quote is that the death rate had not changed; it was still "one death per person". Too many names that are the same, and I need to take notes and possibly read again.
A little unbelievable that they lived for 6 years as a man running a sheep station in Western Australia.
Amazing how someone can reach such an achievement despite racism and poverty.
175 pages were set in Cairo, yet we did not learn anything about the food, the culture, or the people - they were portrayed with "grim stares and narrow eyes of the Egyptians", in contrast to the second half of the book, with the Italians, the food, the hardship of the people and how they suffered was described in detail. Disappointing.
Excellent debut novel.
