This book is based on a series of lectures he gave at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It surveys the history of humankind, beginning in the Stone Age and ending in the 21st century. The account relies on a fusion of the natural sciences with the social sciences.

So even though the townsfolk might not want a woman doctor to treat them, they don’t have much choice with no other option. Until Dr. Nathan Reid arrives in town. Nathan has been tasked by the Marine Hospital Service to start a hospital in the gold rush town of Juneau, and he’s excited to get started. Nathan is only in town for a few minutes before discovering that Juneau already has a competent doctor. She just happens to be a beautiful woman. Maggie McDougal is determined to save her fathers land. That means leaving Lake Michigan and traveling across the country to Washington Territory in search of her brother so he can claim the land rather than let it fall into her uncle’s greedy, hands. The trouble is, when the ship that her brother works on arrives in Bellingham, her brother isn’t on it. But Captain Sacha Amos is. And when he offers to take Maggie north to Alaska where she can meet her brother on his new ship, she has little choice. She discovers the secret study that a scientist is conducting aboard Sacha’s ship—one that just might put an end to seals being illegally killed for their pelts. But seal pelts are worth a lot of money, and if word leaks about what Sacha’s trying to do, he’s going to get in trouble. Caught between her mission to save her family's land and the escalating tension in Alaska, Maggie soon finds herself fighting for something that’s bigger than just property or family ties. Love of course.
this was good but the guy had a thick spanish accent which made it difficult to understand sometimes. Its best listened to one chapter at a time then practise the words a few days before moving to the next, I did it too quickly so many of the words didn't stick in my brain.
Magnificent and stubborn. Fourteen years apart had not changed Chloe Steele, or Dominic Hunter's love for her. He'd been a street urchin, a boy raised at court, and finally a magistrate, yet he'd never belonged anywhere—except by her side. Now Chloe devoted herself to girls threatened by scandal—like she had been. Despite the cover art this is about two people in their forties who've always loved each other and finally get to be together. There is hope after all for young love torn apart, that a happy ending is actually possible.
Messed up young american girl interns for a strong scotsman who turns out to be a duke and he didn't know it. After a lot of twists and turns and lack of confidence from them both, they sleep together and then decide they'll make a commitment. Go figure.
A bit of situational ethics happening in this romance - what would you do to get money to help someone else and how far would you take it before guilt about dishonesty makes you fess up? I was happy that the main characters in this romance stood up for what was right no matter if they lost their heart's lust/love - which of course doesn't mean they remain heartbroken as true love always wins in the end right?
a clean romance about a young lady meeting a young man and while not everything goes right they end up happy and in love at the end - isn't that what we all want? Someone to cherish us!
A modern romance about an italian heiress in New York and a low-paid bartender who gives her a job despite her being hopeless as a waitress. Of course sparks fly from the beginning but they each have their own problems. Can they be honest with each other? No, the easier thing to do is hide behind a shame wedding.. but is it?
A wholesome romance set in Texas and part of a series, so the characters are familiar and the only thing to decide is how these two will eventually get together and then be happy ever after. Good holiday fun.
Did I know who would end up together at the end? Yes, but the way there was interesting and the location of the romance (in the wilds of Alaska) was interesting - also nice to read of the wholesome family that struggle with another famiy who has power and position. An enjoyable read.
I usually really enjoy Jordan and have read all his books. I found this one a little difficult as he seems to move all over the place - but still a worthwhile read.
I found this difficult to read because of the way the language was used. Great adjectives but took a while to get my head around it. A bit of intrigue and not predictable at all, but in the end I enjoyed it more than I thought despite struggling to stay focussed on the story
Another light pleasant one night read about a grumpy man and debutante unwillingly coming together, having feelings and doing the inevitable - getting hitched.
Another light romance novel. This one with a bumbling, accident prone young miss who's been shipped off to a finishing school to mitigate against embarrasing the family. He accidents seem to involve one particular Lord who after only a short time is besotted and proposes. A nice light one night read.
You can only find out the rights and wrongs by Reasoning - never by being rude about your opponent's psychology.' For C. S. Lewis, reason and logic are the sensible way to approach faith and ethics. Much of the 20th century's ills are caused by ill-founded beliefs and opinions. Lewis's original approach remains as vital today as ever. He is able to take the most convoluted subject, turn it side on and shed bright illumination on it, but to be honest I found it difficult to digest since the language was a little dry.
Growing up an orphan, Sam Owens never had a place to call home or a family to love. So if his wife-to-be needs to bring three of her siblings with her, he has no complaints about having a ready-made family. But his mail-order-bride doesn’t arrive with three. She arrives with eight. Sam can’t make himself turn away children in need. But as a beginning rancher, he doesn’t have the resources to care for so many people. This christian historical romance was a pleasure to read and brings hope that good men do exist.
She needs to learn how to flirt. He needs to forget she exists. Then she asks him for help finding a husband… its obvious what's going to happen right? Charlotte Westin has always been more comfortable in a saddle than a ballroom. That wouldn’t be a problem, except her father owns the largest ranch in Texas—and he insists she marry a wealthy city-slicker worthy of a cattle baron’s daughter. There might be someone out there who’d love her for who she is instead of her money, but she’s been fooled by a sweet talker before, and her family is still suffering because of it. With an old friend-turned-enemy returning to town and cattle rustlers running roughshod over the county, Sheriff Daniel Harding knows the last thing he should be thinking about is a woman… especially the one woman he’ll never be able to marry. Then Charlotte Westin asks for his help, and Daniel can’t refuse. Until he finds out exactly what she wants… When Charlotte comes to Daniel with a plan to find herself a husband, Daniel is forced to face his feelings for her—as well as some past mistakes of his own. But as the rustlers grow more dangerous, Charlotte’s father takes drastic steps to engage her to a man she doesn’t love. And Charlotte and Daniel soon find themselves caught between the burdens from their pasts and others’ expectations. Will they let their past choices ruin their dreams? Or will Charlotte and Daniel embrace God’s forgiveness and forge a happy future for themselves? From jagged mountains and green river valleys, to cattle ranches and vivid sunsets, Tomorrow’s Shining Dream offers a meaningful story about simpler times, sincere faith, and unfailing love.Easy romance read set on a texas ranch close to the mexican border. The men are God-fearing kind and in need of a wife. Enjoyed this
This romance is set in the desert on the American border close to Mexico. It was interested reading a romance in this context as cowboy lifestyle hasn't been my thing. I liked how Naomi makes the hero a upstanding christian man trying to do what's right but without preaching - just how he's living with the bible as his guideline for behaviour. The hero and heroine were believable and the story enjoyable.
This is a great short read - light and predictable in the format of the usual clean romance. The 'in-trouble girl gets the troubled earl' kind of story. Well written and easy to read. Will look for more of her stories.
Written in the style of a verse novel so it's easy to read in terms of accessible language. The themes cover family relationships, abuse, loss and rejecting which could be confronting but the end result is a message of hope, faith and resilience that is positive and well written. I would recommend it for teenagers who don't like reading, anyone who's going through a hard time and many others including school counsellors, pastors, parents, teenagers.
