I read with my niece’s daughter, and it was an enjoyable experience. The book introduces Dr. Seuss in a way that is easy for young children to understand.
The story is told through a child’s perspective, showing how Pacific Island families were affected during an important period in New Zealand’s history. Seeing the raids through a child’s eyes makes them feel especially frightening and unfair. This story helped me better understand the impact of the dawn raids and New Zealand’s past.
